Allina Health orthopedic surgeon Dr. L. Pearce McCarty III won’t settle for doing things halfway. When, as a team physician for the Minnesota Twins, he needed a certain type of medical implant he couldn’t get in the operating room, he created it himself. The next step was to figure out how to commercialize it, he says in the latest episode of the Off the Record podcast.
When others told him he could learn to build a business “on the fly,” he made it clear that “that’s not the way I work,” McCarty says. “So I went to Duke and got my MBA.”
Now, as an entrepreneur, renowned surgeon and co-founder of health care IT company DOCSI, McCarty puts his education to good use.
